Site-specific, every site
Nobody works a new site without a site-specific orientation covering ground conditions, access, buried services, overhead power and the hazards specific to that location. Visitors included.
Safety
Earthworks and demolition are among the most dangerous trades in construction. These controls decide whether a job like yours gets finished in one piece.
The Program
A written safety program is a legal baseline for every Alberta contractor. What matters is whether it's used on a Tuesday afternoon when the schedule is behind.
Nobody works a new site without a site-specific orientation covering ground conditions, access, buried services, overhead power and the hazards specific to that location. Visitors included.
Operators hold the certification for the equipment they run. New hires start supervised, on ground their current ticket covers, with a documented sign-off before working alone.
Pre-start inspection on every machine, every shift. Anything defective gets tagged and taken out of service rather than "worked around until Friday."
Every person on site has stop-work authority, without needing permission from anyone else. No schedule, no client and no lost day is a reason to override it.
Incidents, near misses and hazards are recorded and reviewed rather than quietly ignored. A close call is free information. Capture it before someone gets hurt.
First aid on site and trained first aiders present. Emergency contacts, muster points and the site-specific response brief before the first machine starts, not after.
Site Hazards
Generic safety copy doesn't help anyone make a decision on a Tuesday. These are the risks specific to earthworks across this part of Alberta, and how each one is managed.
Cuts benched and battered to the angle the material holds, inspected as we go and after rain. Spoil kept back from the crest of the edge by a set distance, never parked where it can load the face.
Located and marked before any excavation. Exposed services identified, flagged and kept clear. We find out where a line runs before we dig.
Controlled access zones around excavators, dozers and loaders, with pedestrians kept out of swing radius and reversing areas. Spotters used where sightlines are restricted.
We stop when conditions exceed people's limits: whiteout, blowing dust, or cold that affects both the controls and compaction.
When we're working alongside occupied homes or an active road, public protection and clear signage come first. Speed limits enforced on site, access maintained for residents.
Shoring, sloping or benched as required, with spoil and equipment kept back from the edge by the required distance. Inspections before entry, any time conditions change.
Hazardous Materials
Gerald Tchio runs the asbestos, mould remediation and demolition side of the business. This work is governed by provincial rules that cover survey, notification, containment, worker protection and disposal.
Suspected asbestos-containing material is identified before it is disturbed. Removal, handling and disposal follow the applicable provincial requirements for the project.
Containment, source control and clearance. Work is scoped to stop the source rather than to treat the symptoms on the surface.
Selective interior strip-out and full building demolition, sequenced around what stays, what gets salvaged and what has to be proven clear before the machine touches it.
Basement and foundation digs to layout, including excavation under existing slabs and backfill and compaction to finish.
Site Visit
We walk most jobs before quoting. Bring us in early and the scope gets smaller. Ask and it's on its way.
